Do detectives go to roll call when at work in a police station?

If not, then how do they 'punch in' when they first get to work, assuming they are not currently on a case?

Our detectives have a roll call with detectives from other departments, because several agencies commonly investigate similar crimes, so they can share leads, suspects, and exchange other information.

Time is kept on the computer. You can call to dispatch by phone, by radio, or you can log on the computer in your car or office which is tied to dispatch.
