Hey there!

I took this photo towards the end of Mount Cook road in New Zealand, which runs the length of Lake Pukaki and then some until it terminates at Mount Cook Village, at the foot of New Zealands highest peak.

From the position I was standing in when making this image, mount cook was off in the distance to my right and Lake Pukaki off to the left, but I just couldn't help to leave both landmarks out of the scene when the late afternoon sun cast some beautiful shadows across these miscellaneous mountains, creating depth and dimension that I was so hoping to be able to capture.

Home Cooking Party: Appetizer - Tomato-Basil Bruschetta and Garlic Paste Crostini

My girlfriend and I threw our third and home-cooking dinner party over at her place for her former co-workers.

For appetizers we served a tomato-basil-caper balsamic vinaigrette bruschetta along with a roasted garlic puree crostini. The roasted garlic paste was heavenly.

Cooks remove racks of herring from a traditional smokehouse. By 1918 such a feast would be only available to the Allies as the British blockade crippled the German economy.

Food shortages in Germany became severe as early as 1916. The German Government never introduced an effective rationing system ensuring that the privations were equitably shared. Additionally, the conscription program did not take into account the need to maintain agricultural production. Most German civilians by late 1916 were increasingly affected by the War and by it's end, food shortages were at crisis levels. Malnutrition affected many and real starvation loomed.
